Dear All

Attached is information on two cheap conferences on the subject of FASD -
particularly relevant to children and family social workers, learning disability
social workers and alcohol and drug specialists (arguably relevant to all social
workers however...!).

A report was circulated with the conference information and can be
downloaded at:

http://www.alcoholpolicy.net/files/Fetal_alcohol_spectrum_disorders_bma_guid
ance_2007.pdf

It contain some personal testimonies from people living with FASD and
parents/carers too.

FYI - The main controversial debate about the revised guidance for women
not to drink at all during pregnancy is the limited evidence on which it is based
(acknowledged in the report) and the fear that we will move towards some of
the dreadful practice in the USA, ie. demonising women and charging them
with assault on the feotus and worse if they drink at all during pregnancy -
ultimately worsening the stigma and stereotypes attached to women's
drinking.

PLease pass it on to anyone who may be interested.

All the best

Sarah
