Hi Joanne,

As someone who had a limited company for 5 years, I initially started out as self employed and due to circumstance set up a limited company, I recommend you do not do an hourly rate. I am now in full time employment. As nurses we often sell ourselves short. I did a half day rate, full day or project rate. Living in London doing one hour of work was not viable. Project work commands a lot higher rate. As mentioned below you have to factor in the time you spend on research and writing up work.

The AOHNP give guidance to those starting out on their own. You may wish to contact them www.aohnp.co.uk

Aim high,

Siobhan

Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] Hourly pay for OHA

Good morning Joanne,

As an employee contracted to work in the NHS I can't really give an insider view. However I really wouldn't go below £35 an hour and I'd be tempted to go above this. You have to remember that you have to take a living wage, pay your overheads including equipment, rent, pension and annual leave, NI etc.

For our private clients our charge out rate for a qualified OHA is well above that rate, for a Band 5 (registered) nurse it is around that rate. Naturally we can't be too specific due to corporate confidentiality.

Good luck

Paul

Good morning,
I wonder if any of you would be able to help/advise me on what I should charge for an hourly rate when advising a company. They would like help with their policies and processes. I have over 20yrs experience in a number of different industries and am registered as a Specialist Practitioner. Thanks.
Joanne
