Dear all,
Happy 2009 to you all! The January edition of the NRICH website is now
live at
http://nrich.maths.org.
This month we explore the mathematical theme of Interpreting and
Evaluating: Our new problems involve aspects of the process of
interpreting the information in a mathematical problem and examining in
various ways the solution or methods used to get the solution. For
example, are the assumptions and arguments made correct or appropriate?
How does the solution relate to the initial problem? Can we make sense
of someone else's finding? Can we compare strategies used? These are the
skills all good mathematicians need to develop.
Don't forget that you can access the parts of the site of most interest
to students through the 'For Students' link on the top of the main NRICH
page.
Our problems are designed to be attacked with various levels of detail
and sophistication, so why not take a look at some of the problems from
a higher of lower Stage than usual this month? With 24 new problems you
are sure to find something to add some mathematical spice to the new year!
With best wishes from The NRICH Team.
