I am writing to you in my capacity as a member of the thriving GEBCO community
(and also its Permanent Secretary). You may be aware that GEBCO (General Bathymetric
Chart of the Oceans) has been running a 12-month Training Course in ocean bathymetry
at the University of New Hampshire, USA for the last 5 years (now in its fifth year).
The training project, which is funded by the Nippon Foundation in Japan, is now
seeking applicants for the sixth year starting at the end of August 2009. Details
can be found on the GEBCO web site (http://www.gebco.net/training/) and in the
attached advertisement which will appear soon in EOS. The deadline for preliminary
applications is 25th February 2009.
Applicants are being sought from both developed and developing countries. It is
important that applicants can demonstrate that they are likely to be able to continue
working in the field of ocean bathmetry on return to their home country after completing the course.
Please bring this email and its attachment to the attention of
anyone who you think might be interested in applying. Further information can be
obtained from the Project Manager, David Monahan at the University of New Hampshire
(Email: [log in to unmask]).
Thank you,
Best regards,
