I got the impression ( on the margins) that there was some enthusiasm, at Edinburgh last year, to go for organising some sort of inclusive collective for community psychology in the UK. I think this is much needed, for three reasons:
1) the discussion list is, and should b,e just what it says it is - a discussion list, not an organised system for decision making or action ( and many thanks to Rekekah and Grant for their work in moderating the list).
2) we need and want an inclusive and collective voice and mechanism for action for community psychology : a voice that is inclusive of all with a stake is psychology and community ie not just those who are professional or academic psychologists but also other interested citizens ( and also not necessarily just those who are on this list and indeed not necessarily all who are on the list)
3) we need a mechanism for networking and allying with other (international) movements for social justice, within and without psychology
4) this is especially important at this point in time, given that we ( as mandated by a decision at the UK conference in Exeter some years ago, and supported subsequently, though not without critical debate, at subsequent conferences) are going to the British Psychological Society ( BPS) with a proposal to set up a section on community psychology within the society. That section, if set up, will be bound by the professional strictures of the BPS and will not be inclusive ie those who do not have a psychology degree will not be able to join. An inclusive community psychology collective would, I imaging , be usefully complementary to this proposed section.
I think we are all dancing around who could take the initiative on this - it's not an easy task and I am not offering myself but would certainly support anyone who was willing to take a lead on our behalf in at least getting something moving. Meantime thanks Alison for your investigation on the archives.

Looks interesting - wasn't there a session on something similar at the
Edinburgh conference?
