Two research papers on the theme of geographies of Caribbean dance, followed by discussion:
Monika Lawrence: Smadditism in the Caribbean battle for space
‘H’ Patten: Dancehall vibrations: space and place
Monica Lawrence, a lecturer and PhD candidate at the University of Technology, Jamaica, is currently completing research into the work of Rex Nettleford ‘From field to Stage’, and is a long standing member of Jamaica National Dance Theatre Company. She is also director of the Stella Maris Dance Ensemble.
‘H’ Patten is a distinguished practitioner in African-Caribbean Diaspora dance, with a long list of dance productions and arts funding. He is also the Director of Koromanti Arts, and a lecturer and PhD candidate in Dance Studies at Surrey University.
