Syngenta is one of the world's leading companies with 22,000 employees in over 90 countries dedicated to one purpose: bringing plant potential to life. We contribute to addressing some of the planet's most critical issues such as the rising demand for food from a growing population. Syngenta employees have a major impact on the health and wellbeing of communities all around the world. They work in a focused, highly collaborative culture and benefit from the training, development and inspirational colleagues that you'd expect to find in a fast growing, international company.
The Biometrics Group advises on experimental design and provides high level statistical analysis for individuals and project groups within our Crop Protection, Biotech and Seeds businesses based in the UK, Switzerland, the USA and elsewhere. The main purpose of the role in question is to plan, conduct and report on the statistical analysis of key datasets arising from lab, glasshouse and field studies, extracting information of genuine business value in an accurate, effective and timely manner. The projects you will be working on span a wide range of scientific disciplines and, as a consequence, the nature of the work is varied and technically challenging.
You will need a good degree in a maths-related subject plus an MSc or similar level qualification in statistics, together with an in-depth understanding of applied statistics relevant to crop research. You will need to be able to work accurately under pressure, and to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely to non-statisticians both orally and in writing. A good working knowledge of SAS and a familiarity with biological processes are both desirable but not essential.
Whilst the position is targeted as a supporting role with potential for development, the possibility exists to recruit at a more senior level, with wider ranging accountabilities.
