The Prevention Research Collaboration (PRC) comprises researchers with
expertise in the prevention of obesity, and promotion of nutrition and
physical activity. This expertise covers health promotion and disease
prevention, policy research, program evaluation, and measurement related to
obesity, nutrition, exercise, as well as epidemiology and biostatistics. The
PRC has a Funding Agreement with the NSW Health Department, research funding
from NHMRC, and small contracts and consultancies from other agencies.
The PRC is currently seeking a Research Fellow (Biostatistician) to work
with a range of researchers on epidemiological and public health research
related to physical activity, nutrition and overweight and obesity. The
research includes analyses of data from intervention studies and population
health datasets.
The successful applicant will undertake tasks as part of the research
program funded by NSW Health (0.5), as well as collaborate on academic
research projects (0.5). The role involves working in a team environment and
collaborating with different researchers on a mix of projects. Subsequently,
good oral and written communication skills and advanced analytical and
statistical skills are important.
To be successful, the Research Fellow will possess relevant qualifications,
with major strengths in statistics or biostatistics, as well as solid
experience in health-related statistical analysis that includes use of
routine survey and population health data. An understanding of epidemiology
and public health research methods is essential. Experience in multivariate
modeling relevant to public health and in calculating complex sample sizes
in population health studies is also required.
Experience working with NSW Health population health data, longitudinal
study data and nutrition and/or physical activity behaviour data will be
highly advantageous. A track record in research publications and grant
applications and advanced skills in SAS or equivalent is also desirable.
The position is full-time fixed term for up to three years, subject to the
completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. There is
the possibility of further offers of employment, subject to funding and
need. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a
condition of employment for new appointees.
Remuneration package: $88,465 - $105,052 p.a. (which includes a base salary
Level B $74,755 - $88,771 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s
contribution to superannuation).
