I have been asked to forward this to these lists. Please reply to the Healthcare Commission contacts below, not to me.

********************************************************************************
HealthCare Commission -Short Term Opportunity (Contract/ Secondment)

Do you have experience of working in public health?

The successor body of the Healthcare Commission, the Care Quality Commission will play a key role in Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) in partnership with other regulators and the Audit Commission. In preparation for this, the Healthcare Commission is working with the Audit Commission and others to develop the approach to assessing areas in relation to health.
Central to the CAA process will be local cross-inspectorate collaboration and dialogue with local partners. The agenda will be driven by analysis of data held both nationally and locally by the inspectorates involved. The Healthcare Commission will contribute relevant health data for each area and, through an initial analysis, will identify priority concerns and questions for the CAA process before handing on to CQC, the successor body. For each area this will involve input from operational sta as well as from central policy and informatics teams, and public health advisers.

We are now inviting applications for public health adviser roles from people who are currently involved in or have experience of working in a public health capacity, particularly in data analysis. The role with the Healthcare Commission will be complete by 31st March.

As someone with relevant experience and understanding of public health, in particular experience in interpreting health-related data (including for non-specialist audiences), you will support the Healthcare Commission's work in collating and interpreting evidence on health for the CAA process for a number of areas. This will include:
* Providing an initial review of nationally held health-related data and the national indicator set, identifying concerns, particularly notable performance and also guidance/questions to assist local inspectorate sta to explore issues further. This will include narratives written with a view to inclusion in the nal CAA report * Attending an initial 2 to 4 day meeting to agree a common approach and complete first drafts of initial reviews, and a follow up meeting to finalise these reviews * Where appropriate, supporting (usually via phone and email) local staff in understanding issues and preparing for cross-inspectorate dialogues.

We envisage each adviser completing reviews for a number of local areas.
This
will involve a commitment of approximately 7 days in March for which your organisation will be paid on a replacement cost basis for your secondment or, if self employed, you will be paid on a day rate contract. Short-listed applicants will be invited to attend interviews between 9 - 19th Feb and, if successful, training and initial adviser working group is likely to take place 17 - 20 March.
If you are interested in applying for these positions please send the
following:
* an up-to-date CV
* a cover letter of no more than 2 pages providing concrete examples of your experience and understanding of public health, including in particular experience in interpreting health-related data * details of two referees, one of whom should be your current or most recent employer Deadline for applications: 5pm Thursday 29 January 2009
Interviews: Between 9th - 19th February 2009 Applications should be forwarded to:
