Verrry slowww, as I recall. But kind of amazing. (Sadly, I haven't
seen Noh in Japan - I understand people spend all day and treat it
like a big picnic).
I saw a marvellous contemporary production of one of Mishima's Noh
adaptations a couple of years ago. It sort of de-westernised him, but
most interestingly...the main performer is an extraordinary actor, who
has done a lot of work with Meryl Tankard and with those strange avant
garde troupes in Japan. It was mesmerising stuff.
