/Born Criminals? Social and ethical implications of research into
genetics, development, and criminality./
*
*
An increasing number of social policies promote early identification and intervention in children with behavioral problems, in an effort to prevent anti-social and criminal behavior later in life. At the same time, a growing research programme in genetics and neuroscience is trying to identify 'bio-markers' of risk of these early behavioral problems, and the links to criminality and psychopathy. As social policies and research agendas intersect, little attention is being paid to the potential social and ethical implications for children and families of these scientific and social agendas. This talk invites consideration of what a relevant sociological response to these developments should be.
