Dear All,
We are looking for a PhD Student in Molecular Biology / Biochemistry /
Structural Biology
Your tasks:
Our group investigates the structure-function relationship of
microtubule plus-end tracking proteins (+TIPs), which play important
roles in many essential cellular activities including chromosome
segregation, cell polarization and migration, organelle transport,
intracellular signaling, and tumorigenesis. You will be involved in
cloning, expression, and purification of target sequences and in the
characterization of the resulting materials by biochemical and
biophysical methods, including X-ray crystallography. The project is
carried out within the structural biology group at PSI, which offers
excellent facilities for molecular biology and structural research at
its world-class synchrotron, the Swiss Light Source.
The thesis can be carried out as a graduate student of the Department
of Biology at ETH Zürich, which offers an excellent graduate students
program (for further information, see http://www.mol.biol.ethz.ch/)
The Paul Scherrer Institute is a centre for multi-disciplinary
research and one of the world's leading user laboratories. With its
1300 employees it belongs as an autonomous institution to the Swiss
ETH domain and concentrates its activities on solid-state research and
materials sciences, elementary particle physics, energy and
environmental research as well as biology and medicine.
Qualification
You hold a Diploma / Masters or equivalent degree preferentially in
Biophysics, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology. Practical skills in
Molecular Biology and Protein Chemistry are highly desirable.
Proficiency in written and oral communication in English is required.
Being a self-motivated, organized, creative, and enthusiastic team
player is essential to ensure your success in completing your Ph.D. in
this exciting, dynamic and extensively growing field of research.
