Four years PhD position in (far) infrared spectroscopy
of unstable species of astrophysical interest
==================================================================
I have a vacancy for a PhD student for a four years junior research
position in the field of high resolution spectroscopy of molecular
transients of astrophysical interest.
The position is funded by SRON (Netherlands Institute for Space
Research) and Leiden Observatory and fully embedded within the
infrastructural settings of the Sackler Laboratory for Astrophysics
(www.laboratory-astrophysics.eu) at Leiden Observatory
(www.strw.leidenuniv.nl). The work is in support of upcoming
large scale astronomical facilities, HIFI on Herschel and ALMA
in particular, and to guide astronomical observations to interpret
gas-grain interactions.
I search for an enthusiastic person with a good record in
experimental physics or experimental physical chemistry, preferably
with experience in the field of (IR) lasers and/or cavity ring down
(as the construction of an IR cw-OPO system in a CRD configuration
is part of the thesis research, see also CPL 442 (2007) 145) and
with clear astronomical interests.
Candidates who are interested should send their application to
[log in to unmask] and arrange for two letters of
recommendation. The position is available immediately and
applications are accepted until the vacancy is filled.
