At Nottingham we have integrated Captivate presentations within an
online tutorial developed using WebCT. All students are automatically
registered for this module, sections of which are also available on the
Web. We demonstrate a range of databases, including using the eLibrary
Gateway, see link below, searching for subject specific databases and
using Endnote.

We have also used Captivate within some RLO's we have developed with the
School of Nursing.

Captivate is also easy to use and is popular with our students.
Best wishes

We used Captivate to create a 9 minute induction video for our first
year students( Slideshow with voice over and closed captions). It took a
long time to do but student feedback suggests that it was worth the
effort.

We also use Captivate for database tutorials and other walkthroughs.
Captivate is quite user friendly and it does not take too much time to
learn how to create basic tutorials.

tutorials?

Hi Kristy

We have used Captivate at the University of Birmingham to create online
demos for our eLibrary. There are five short tutorials covering
different aspects of using the service. They're available here:
http://www.elibrary.bham.ac.uk/guide.shtml#demo

I would echo Emma that Captivate is a relatively easy product to use.
Some of my colleagues and I have also used it to create subject database
tutorials for students and then embed them in our VLE.

Hope this helps,

Nancy

Hi Kristy,

We have used Captivate at Sussex to create some tutorials for our
federated search tools. These are available below.

We liked it because once you have worked out what you want to say, it is

a very simple product to use. We are now looking at doing smaller
tutorials without a voiceover.

best wishes
