My interest arises out of watching and being involved in the
finalisation of an estate and considering some privacy facets, as they
arise.
The confidentiality of correspondence is not new and does not legally
appear to have changed significantly since the early to mid 1800's,
although practices in some areas certainly have, whilst individual
expectations have not, an interesting disparity that continues to be
illustrated across both the literature and media.
Differences between respect for the living and the dead illustrate
many of the inequities rather well, especially when one considers which
facets have changed in each relationship as it moves from an active
situation into a memory.
Once again, I thank everybody for their responses which I suspect will
be of help to list members.
