Senior Program Manager
Job Description:
The Windows Experience Division is looking for a strong technical program
manager to lead the standards, alliance, and partner efforts for
accessibility technologies.
Interoperability between information technologies and accessibility
technologies has become more complex with increased requirements to adhere
to industry standards, government policies and regulations. This changing
environment is becoming increasingly significant to the considerations in
procurement and technology deployment decisions worldwide. Governments,
educational institutions and large enterprises are requiring higher levels
of accessibility and interoperability from software vendors. In order to
achieve this interoperability, Microsoft is driving and participating in
standards efforts that are focused on the development and implementation of
standards which include the harmonization of existing accessibility
technologies as well as the creation of bridging technologies. Microsoft
must be highly coordinated across a wide range of corporate functions if it
is to succeed in this complex, global undertaking of making computing more
accessible.
This Windows Experience program manager position continues our increased
investment in this area. The position will be responsible for the creation
and operation of a model for coordinating the global accessibility standards
initiatives across the company as well as through external standards
organizations. Participants in global standards activities will include
corporate standards members, the corporate accessibility group, other
product groups, marketing groups, government affairs professionals, partner
and customer relations management teams, and corporate leadership. This
position will ensure strong technical contribution and coordination between
these various functions to deliver successful results in one of our most
important standards engagements around the globe. The successful candidate
will have a unique opportunity to work across a wide range of company
functions and deliver significant value in a critical competitive area.
Individuals applying for this position should have at least ten years of
experience working as a technical program manager with proven ability to
drive complex technical projects forward across a variety of corporate
functions. They should have excellent communications and interpersonal
skills, be results oriented, and be capable of delivering strong results in
high pressure situations. They should also have the ability to thoughtfully
analyze systems and identify areas for improvement, and effectively work
with others to bring about those improvements over time. Experience with
standards, in coalition building, in PR and in government affairs are highly
desirable.
Core Job Skills and Requirements:
* Several years of experience in architecture/design/development
of large systems.
* Ability to ramp up on new technologies and new service domains
quickly.
* Deep familiarity and experience with MSAA, UI Automation, and
other accessibility APIs and accessibility tools and applications on the
Windows.
* Knowledge of accessibility on Linux, Macintosh, and mobile
platforms highly desirable.
* Ability to be a key driver of technical information to external
standards organizations.
* To provide technical and thought leadership to standards
organizations.
* Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical
audiences.
* If required, to provide actual management, direction and
oversight to a standards working group.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Strong cross-group collaborations skills.
* Strong negotiation and conflict management skill demonstrated
with customers, stakeholders, peer engineering teams, and project team
members.
* Ability to lead to issue resolution.
* Four year college degree, with at least five years related
experience in key design/architecture and/or standards contributions.
* Ability to collaborate with other technical program managers
