Hi Sallie,
thanks for your e-mail - the event looks really interesting and I will
try to attend with at least some of my students.
I am a part-time science teacher at a comprehensive school in London.
I also work as a science communication consulatant and TV producer who
specialises in science films. At the moment, I am working on a joint
online / film project , part-funded by the Wellcome Trust, called "Why
is Science Important?"
The web project has already had numerous contributions from some of
the UK's most prominent science writers including Simon Singh, Dr
Susan Blackmore and Jim Al-Khalili. I have contributions due from many
others, including Philip Ball and Adam Hart-Davis as well as Marcus du
Sautoy, the newly appointed Simonyi Professor for the Public
Understanding of Science.
You can see how the project is developing at www.whyscience.co.uk
I am writing to ask if my project could be partnered or feature as
part of the projects you mention in your e-mail. I think that
answering the question "why is science important?" should be at the
heart of good science communication and I'd like to share the results
of my work with people who are participating in the work your
organisation is doing.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Alom shaha
