I think, this will be really necessary!

I donīt think, that the "exclusiveness" of the FACES-meeting in singapore
was intentional. it is as usual a question of capacities and money.
for years now, there have been faces-meetings accompanying big festivals on
electronic arts, but the size (and promotion, and accessibility) of this
always depends on the local faces-members, who are willing to organize
something.
I remember ISEA in paris, where we had presentations by faces-members at the
university the whole afternoon, and the auditorium was packed with people.
it was open to everybody, and people seemed to know. nathalie magnan was
organizing this.
and we had our own space during some ars electronica, where we had breakfast
together, workshops, projects and presentations, open to everybody. and
people came (organized by a group of faces in linz - ushi reiter, aileen
derieg...).
it is just so much effort every time. you have to push yourself into the
festival, because they never invite you and offer money. then you never get
as much money as you need, and you are stuck into organizing all the time,
while there are so many interesting things going on.
the linz group made it 1 time, it was great, but they were completely
exhausted at the end. since then, there are only small faces-dinners during
ars, which is also good and necessary, because you can network. and strong
networks are something we really need!
