The MRC Epidemiology Unit in Cambridge was set up in October 2003 to study
the genetic and environmental determinants of obesity, diabetes and related
metabolic disorders. For further information about the Unit please visit:

posts:
2 Year Fixed-Term Contract
Ref: EPID08/690
A 2 year post to provide general statistical support within the Epidemiology
Unit. The major focus of this work will be the planning and implementation
of statistical analyses for specific ongoing epidemiological studies (e.g.
the InterAct project) in collaboration with scientists within the unit and
from other institutions across Europe.
3 Year Fixed-Term Contract
Ref: EPID08/689
A 3 year post to provide statistical expertise to a multidisciplinary
programme of research focusing on the translation of epidemiological
evidence into prevention of Type 2 diabetes and its complications. This
will include use of data from existing clinical trials and cohort studies to
assess cost-effectiveness of approaches to the early
detection and treatment of diabetes, and modelling work in collaboration
with health economists and health psychologists based
in Cambridge.
Level of appointment for both posts will depend upon qualifications and
experience. You should have a Masters degree in statistics or a related
subject. To be considered for Band 4, you should have at considerable
experience as a statistician (gained either through further academic study
or practically in a working environment). You should have the skills to be
able to work independently, using a variety of statistical analysis methods,
and be able to communicate and interpret statistical information for a
non-statistical audience.
The starting salary is in the region of £25,368 - £31,048 per annum for Band
4 and £19,430 - £26,555 per annum for Band 5,
depending on qualifications and experience. This is supported by a flexible
pay and reward policy.
