Commiserations, have been in the same situation myself, but mine was just in
the New Year - I'm now self employed, maybe a suggestion to think about.
I've also just recently closed down an OH unit based at one of my factory
client sites as the company made all their staff redundant, so I had no OH
dept anymore. Luckily my OH records were being archived by the parent
company OH Provider in the UK, but I still had to do the main bulk or
archiving into boxes etc.
Your right you have things to sort out:-
Health records, COSHH records etc. - These need to be archived, do the
company have their own archive storage or so they use any specific companies
or can advise. You need to archive normal/general OH Records for the
standard maximum 12 years, any COSHH records minimum 40 years. You will need
to make a spreadsheet record - so the company who archive know when they can
be destroyed. (hope you haven't got too many records, it does take time).
I'll see if I can find the type of spreadsheet info I included and send it
on to your private email.
Medications both general use and POM. - Your local pharmacy or hospital
should be able to destroy these for you, I would liaise with them on that,
they are usually very helpful.
Hope that helps a little, not the most pleasant thing to have to go through.
Kind regards
Clare

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] closing OH Dept
Good morning,
Just the early Christmas present you want, notice of redundancy and
complete closure of the OH Dept! Guess I am on the job market now.
Does anyone have experience of closing a department. There are obviously
concerns with regards to our health records, COSHH records etc. Also we
have a relatively large stock of medicartions both general use and POM. As
far
as I know this will be a complete closure with no plans for a part time OH
provider to take over any part of the service.
Also we have a lot of equipment, don't know what the plans are for this but
if
the company are going to dispose of any I will post on JiscMail.
Regards
