Hi Jon
We've just put up a Face book page for the Art gallery and have had two
My Space pages for a while.
Person to talk is Zoe Paperniek if you want any info.
From my point of view as web manager for our main website my concerns
are about double data entry and people having time to keep all these
different offerings up to date but I do think the new FaceBook 'Fan of..
' is a good way to spread the word about museums and galleries.
Cheers
linda

Renaissance West Midlands
Online Social Networking and Museums in the West Midlands
How are regional museums using social networks? How can they best use
them to reach existing and new audiences?
Renaissance West Midlands have commissioned digital publishing
consultant Jon Pratty to research how museums, galleries, libraries and
archives can make best use of the latest online social networking
networks.
"We are very keen to speak to people in the West Midlands who want to
get their museum or culture venue into social network sites like
Facebook and MySpace," said Linda Spurdle, Hub Online Resources Manager,
Renaissance West Midlands. "If you've already done it, let's hear how it
went. If you're thinking about doing it, let's get together to help each
other."
This short action research project works through online social networks
themselves, building activity, making links, joining networks together,
evaluating the systems through practical use.
It will pull together shared social networking experiences during
November/December 2008, which will then be presented at an informal
event in a West Midlands museum in the week beginning December 15, 2008.
A web page summing up the research and recognising the outcomes of the
project will be published on the Renaissance West Midlands website -
