TOUR THE WINCHESTER DISCOVERY CENTRE - ONE YEAR ON

The 27th November marks Hampshire County Council's one year anniversary of the opening of the inspirational Discovery Centre, in the heart of historic Winchester's expanding cultural quarter.
This first class Library Services hosts "over £300,000 of new items in addition to its current stock, a 'Fast back' service, express check out and returns... special spaces for children and young people, ....comfy seating for reading and relaxing. Internet access, Wi-Fi and online learning with meeting rooms, study areas and refreshments" - plus more.
Celebrate with a guided tour of the Discovery Centre, and an opportunity to network with fellow library and information workers.
Who is this for? Those preparing for Chartership, Revalidation or Certification may add reflections of the tour to their portfolio. Also ideal for anyone simply wishing to look at the facilities and resources which this impressive and family friendly public library has to offer.

PROGRAMME:
16.45 - 16.55 Arrival (Meet in the Foyer of the Discovery Centre)
17.00 - 17.45 Guided Tour of the Winchester Discovery Centre
(Graeme Pick, Library Manager & Nick Coates, Event Programme Manager)
Afterwards, you are invited to network over refreshments for purchase at the Centre Cafe, open until 19.00, and enjoy the convivial company of celebrated author Henry Hitchings on "How To Really Talk About Books You Haven't Read" !
There are also other events taking place in Winchester :
- the Official Opening Gala of the Cathedral Christmas Market (free entry)

Cost: The Tour of the Discovery Centre is free. Tickets for the evening Hitchings event are £3 per person. (Winchester Discovery Centre fee). There will be a collection for the Career Development Group International Projects (Charity no. 313014). Please make cheques payable to 'Career Development Group, London & South East Divisions'.
Venue: Winchester Discovery Centre, Jewry Street, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 8RX.
Access: There are lifts, toilets and baby changing facilities. All areas are accessible to disabled visitors. Some software is available for people with a hearing or visual impairement.
E Hearing loop system installed in the performance hall.
W Venue with un-stepped access via main or side door, wheelchair spaces and adapted toilet.
X Venue with flat or one-step access to event/meeting area.
G Provision for guide dogs.

Road
On the M3 leave J11 when coming from the south or J9 from north and follow signs to the city centre. There is limited pay-and-display parking at Winchester Discovery Centre. Other public car parks are well signposted. There is free parking on each late night shopping Thursday from 13th November in all City Centre car parks except Colebrook Street and Chesil Street. Bus
The Park and ride stops a few minutes walk away at the Southern end of Jewry St.
A bus stop is located right outside our main entrance - buses stopping there are, 1, 2, 4,5,6, 7,10,X24/25/26, 68, 86, 95/95A/96/96A, 99/X99.
Train
Winchester is on a direct line from London Waterloo with frequent trains daily. The train station is about 5 minutes from the city centre. Winchester Discovery Centre is a few minutes walk from Winchester station along City Road.
