Are you interested in joining the small, friendly Career Development Group East
of England Division committee which currently has some vacancies?
The Career Development Group is a Special Interest Group of CILIP, the
Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. The Career
Development Group has members from all sectors of the library and information
profession.
Divisions provide training and career development opportunities. These
include:
courses
committee meetings
newsletters
social events
The number of members and Officers for a particular Division vary but they
normally consist of:
Chair
Vice Chair
Secretary
Treasurer
Candidate Support Officers (CSOs) for Chartership, Certification and
Revalidation
Publicity Officer
Web Officer
National Council Representative (some Divisions rotate this position)
Further committee members
So why might you want to become involved?
Experience with divisional committee work broadens personal professional
development, especially for the purposes of MCLIP and ACLIP applications.
There are valuable opportunities for exchanging ideas and experiences with
library and information professionals working in different sectors. Enthusiasm
and a willingness to get involved are the most important qualities and you will
bring a fresh perspective to the committee.
A significant proportion of committee work takes place via email and
telephone, though we like to meet as a committee four times a year, and try
to rotate the venue of meetings to make travel easier. Refreshments are
provided, and all travel expenses are met by the group.
When are we next meeting up?
Our next meeting will be held at 6pm on Tuesday 2nd December 2008. The
venue is the Library Meeting Room, University Library, Anglia Ruskin University,
East Road, Cambridge, CB1 1PT. We will be joined by Maria Cotera, president
elect of CDG who will be answering questions on the work of CDg across the
divisions and what she plans to focus on when her term of office begins in
January 2009.
If you would like more information, please feel free to contact our Secretary,
Chris Barker, by email at [log in to unmask] And please let her know if you
are planning to attend so we can arrange enough refreshments etc.
