Hello,
Here at the University of Brighton we have in stock a very poor quality
recording of the 9 part series Strings, bows and bellows. As the
programmes are used for teaching I have been asked to find out if
another institution can provide us with a better quality copy of the
recordings. The series was first broadcast in 1994 and was a Hawkshead
for BBC production. The BFI Film & TV database describes the series as:
"A 9-part contemporary music series, featuring musicians such as pianist
Joanna MacGregor, accordionist James Crabb, the percussion group
Ensemble Bash, mezzo soprano Lone Lixenberg, Chi-Chi Nwanku and jazz
composer Django Bates, filmed in a variety of locations. The pieces and
composers are as follows: `Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues', Frederic
Rzewski; `Third Construction', John Cage; `Autumn in Warsaw', Gyorgy
Ligeti (filmed in B&W); `Sin Medida', Julio d'Escrivan; `Failing', Tom
Jonson; `Uninterrupted Rests, Toru Tukemitsu; `De Profundis', Sofia
Gubaidulina; `Piano Sonato', James Macmillan; `Tentle Moments', Django
Bates."
Can anyone help with all or part of the series? Blank media will of
course be provided in return.
Thank you,
Jenny
