Dear LIS-EUR-IUGers,
I received this email (below) from John Dillon with the idea of
nominating Bob Duncan for the 2009 Academic/Research Librarian of the
Year Award ACRL award.
I'm more than happy to write a letter to ACRL in support of this idea as
I think Bob's always fantastically supportive.
You can see that John is suggesting that a number of us write letters in
support of this. If you'd like to add your support I'm happy for you to
send your letters to me so that I can send a set on to John. Or if you'd
like to send letters directly to John I'm sure he'd be happy with that.
**Please note that the deadline for nominations is Friday 5th
December.**
Thanks,
Natalie Pollecutt

Subject: Nominating Bob Duncan for ACRL award
Erik, Doug, Katrina, Mark, Martin, Natalie, Andrew, Beth, David, Said,
Steven, Mary, Minna, and John,
(I started with a couple of you, but others of you occurred to me as
well ! )
I "know" many of you only from the IUG list, but wanted to write and
invite you to help with something, if you'd like.
And please pardon the hastiness or timing of this message...
Per the couple emails (below) to the IUG list recently (about this ACRL
Award) I could not help thinking of Bob Duncan as a candidate. My own
view is that Bob's contributions over the years and ongoing are just so
outstanding (and phenomenal) that I think he deserves outstanding
recognition. I don't have any sense of whether he could actually win or
not, but I'm just guessing that his IUG emails and presentations have
greatly helped MANY sites (like ours) that in very practical terms he
has significantly furthered "academic or research librarianship and
library development".
Here's some proposals to consider...
1. We each send in a letter of support (however brief), as mentioned in
the email below 2. We each forward the suggestion to some other sites
who might be interested in doing the same 3. We consider sending a very
brief email (not this one) to the IUG list, signed by a few or all of
us, if you are interested
Comments on above:
1. Respecting Bob's privacy, I asked him if he minded if some of us did
this, and if he'd provide a Vita. He was both humbly and shamelessly
agreeable. Good for him.
3. To be honest, I've hesitated sending to the whole list, out of not
trying to embarrass Bob, or seeming like a lone "Bob Duncan booster".
But my appreciation for his help on the IUG probably outweighs my
hesitations.
Please let me know your thoughts, or if you're interested.
thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving!
John
