Vacancy: Webmaster (100%)

The Geneva-based Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the
Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is looking for a new Webmaster to manage
and coordinate all website and IT-related activities. IDMC is the leading
international body monitoring conflict-related internal displacement 
worldwide.

Reporting to the Head of IDMC, and supported by the Web/Database Assistant
(DA), the Webmaster will be responsible for:

1) WEBSITE / DATABASE

Overall responsibility and tasks
· Manage and coordinate overall website-related activities.
· Provide technical and coordination support to all departments in 
response to existing or future website-related needs (development of 
existing or new web-pages).
· Liaise with IDMC’s external Lotus Notes consultants and web-hosts to 
respond to website-related needs and problems, and to ensure the day-to 
day maintenance of the website.
· Represent IDMC in IT humanitarian fora and Information Management 
meetings.
· Plan and coordinate regular redesigns of the website and reviews of 
the Database.
· Supervise the DA.
· Maintain and develop IDMC’s mapping capacity by regularly producing 
and updating IDP maps for IDMC’s reports, publications or presentations.

Publication tasks
· Ensure IDMC’s reports, publications, press releases, maps and IDP News 
Alerts are posted on the web in a timely manner.
· In close collaboration with all Country Analysts (CA) and with the 
assistance of the DA, monitor IDP-related information published on the 
web to ensure that relevant information is identified and posted flow on 
IDMC’s web pages.
· Ensure active dissemination of IDMC’s documents through regular e-mail 
notifications sent to our e-mail subscribers, ensure that the mailing 
list is kept up-dated.
· Maintain and develop IDMC’s picture archive.

Database
· With assistance from the DA, ensure the website’s full functionality 
and overall quality by maintaining the validity of web links as well as 
common layout/style standards, with a particular focus on the IDP 
database section.
· Review information envelopes and country pages to ensure common 
quality standards and regular updating of content.
· Update the technical section of the Country Analyst Handbook and 
ensure that new staff is trained to using the database and Lotus Notes

Special projects websites
· Maintain and update IDMC’s special project websites, as appropriate.

Statistics, user surveys and usability studies
· Provide statistics and analytical reports on website consultation, and 
on download of specific documents.
· Conduct regular user surveys and website usability studies with 
representatives of core user groups and partners to ensure that the 
website responds to the needs of our main users with regards to design, 
content and navigation.

Marketing
· Develop and implement a marketing strategy to promote the use of the 
website among our core target groups and increase the overall number of 
users of the database/website.
· Ensure the optimal positioning of the website in search engine ranking 
and develop the overall web-presence of IDMC.
· Ensure that IDMC’s reports and updates are promoted in relevant 
humanitarian information fora through close collaboration with partner 
websites such as NRC, ReliefWeb, Reuters Alertnet, Brookings Institute.
· Develop and produce multimedia information and awareness-raising 
resources, such as videos and audio-visual presentations

2) IT

Overall responsibility
· With the assistance of the DA, act as overall focal point for the 
office computer and telecommunication infrastructure, software included
· Ensure that the IT needs of IDMC are met in a timely manner by 
managing IT budget lines and providing advice on necessary technical 
software improvements.

Hardware
· Liaise with external technical service partners to ensure day-to-day 
maintenance and development of all computer related hardware and 
equipment, including the telephone system.
· Handle IT hardware procurements in consultation with the Head of IDMC.
· Manage and maintain field mission-related IT equipment (laptops, 
satellite phones, cell phones, cameras).

Software
· Handle software procurements
· Provide advice and technical support to IDMC staff in the use of 
relevant computer programmes and the preparation of material for 
training, presentations, and publications.



QUALIFICATIONS
IDMC is looking for a Webmaster with the following profile:

Essential competencies
• At least three years professional experience in website management
for a non governmental organisation or a research / academic institution
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Content
Management Systems, layout software, MS Office, and Lotus Notes
• Fluent in spoken and written English
• Relevant Bachelor’s degree
• Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited
supervision

Other competencies
• Fluent spoken French an advantage
• Demonstrated track record of maintaining an office computer
network and of providing IT support to users
• Interest in forced migration and humanitarian issues

The salary offered is in the range of 74,000 – 82,000 CHF annually, 
subject to
taxation and social deductions.
