IFA Workplace Learning Bursary in Archaeological Geophysics

Applications are invited for an HLF-funded IFA Workplace Learning Bursary based in Archaeological Sciences, University of Bradford. The post is designed to provide the successful candidate with training in the full range of archaeological geophysical work, starting with field-acquisition of data to reporting and archiving according to professional standards. A particular focus will be the preparation of the Time Team Geophysical Archive (TTGA) for archiving according to professional standards. This collection has recently been deposited with the University by GSB Prospection.
Archaeological Sciences at the University of Bradford (part of the Division of Archaeological, Geographical and Environmental Sciences, AGES) has a long history in archaeological geophysics, covering research, setting of standards and Knowledge Transfer work. Graduates from the NERC-funded MSc in Archaeological Prospection now work in important roles in a variety of companies and institutions, nationally and internationally. The bursary holder will be supervised by Dr Armin Schmidt, leader of the Archaeological Prospection Research Group and Dr Chris Gaffney, who recently joined the University after working in the commercial sector for 18 years.
Applicants should recently have completed a degree course which includes geophysical surveys, or have substantial experience in geophysical data collection within a commercial environment, at the equivalent of Practitioner level of the Institute for Archaeologists. It would be desirable for applicants to have experience with Microsoft Access, GIS software, collecting and processing magnetometer and earth resistance data for archaeological prospection and writing reports to a specified brief.
