Royal Statistical Society
Meeting of the Social Statistics Section
2 December 2008, 5.00pm, at the Royal Statistical Society (tea from 4.30pm)
Ethnic populations: the components for projection
Paul Norman, John Stillwell and Peter Boden (School of Geography, University
of Leeds)
The Social Statistics Section is organizing this meeting to discuss work
associated with two projects undertaken as part of the ESRC-funded
"Understanding Population Trends and Processes" (UPTAP) programme
(http://www.uptap.net/). One project aims to produce sub-national
population projections by ethnic group and by age whilst the other project
involves analysis of internal migration by ethnic group using census data
for 2000-01. The presentations will consider trends and patterns in each of
the components of ethnic population change together, and will report on
progress towards the construction of a projection model and the difficulties
confronted along the way.
The presentations will include the following topics:
· Fertility & Mortality trends by ethnic group, 1991 and 2001
· Internal migration by ethnic group, 2000-2001
· International migration by ethnic group, 2001-2006
· Projecting ethnic group populations
The meeting will take place at the Royal Statistical Society headquarters,
12 Errol Street, London, EC1Y 8LX (see
http://www.rss.org.uk/about/direction.html for a map and directions).
The meeting is open to all and free of charge, but pre-registration is
