Landscapes: A Warning
For most of his life, Ezra’s face was a warning
against taking landscapes too seriously.
Cheerfully, he took a violinist as a mistress,
and continued with The Cantos.
Osiris wanted to civilize the Egyptians, who
killed him. Unable to imagine a contrary direction.
A poet without portfolio, he was not expected
to amount to much overseas.
Enough weapons were cached there for ten
thousand men, women and/or children.
Do not speak unless spoken to, he was warned
as a child. For years, he held his tongue.
