medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This is puzzling. What is the omission referred to? 'Saints of the day' has always been a selective listing of saints and blesseds celebrated on a particular day. Since there is no requirement of completeness (and since past practice would in any event not lead one to expect completeness), one may speak of absences but not of omissions.
Additionally and for reasons that have been spelled out before and need not be repeated now, 'Saints of the day' follows the current RM with occasional additions. Consequently, one might expect a particular saint to appear in 'Saints of the day', if at all, on a day in which his or her elogium appears in the current RM. For St. Edward the Confessor that day is not today. A quick consultation of this list's Archives will reveal that St. Edward the Confessor has indeed received a 'Saints of the day' notice in 2008 on the day under which his elogium appears in the current RM.

John Dillon
