medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
We're back to Christopher's original guess on what the thing is, which seems
a reasonable one. Even today, the ombrellino is still the lesser form of the
portable baldachino in the Roman rite and used in certain processions where
the rubrics do not call for the larger form.
But were they used in processions in the time period represented in the
Chartres pilgrim badge?
