I think it's a bit bad that people immediately started questioning this
person's credentials! People seem to have very suspicious minds!
Perhaps he should be apologised to? (If possible)

I think oxford.ac.uk redirects to ox.ac.uk, so you can use either in the
email. I know at Reading there's the choice to type @reading.ac.uk or
@rdg.ac.uk and Westminster can also be wmin.ac.uk
I don't have that many opinions on the academia site itself, except that
it would be depressing to find that librarians will be somewhere at the
bottom of the tree of importance!

Also an interesting email address! A simple Google of Oxford University
and philosophy picks up the following ac.uk address:
www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk/
Not as stated PHILOSOPHY.OXFORD.AC.UK
Curious!

I wouldn't say that in itself is conclusive, because people may use the
more common form in general 'speech' even when they know it's
technically a 'D.Phil.' at Oxford. However, a quick check on
http://www.theses.com/
shows no thesis at Oxford on this subject by an R. 'Price'.
