Martin

Amongst the QOF list you may also wish to consider areas where
healthcare scientists/medical staff could get involved in front line
clinical services eg points for smoking cessation. Perhaps the QOF
target list may be modifed in future to meet more public health measures
possibly GP-specific QOF points developing to reflect more specialist
services whilst some of the current list transfers to other healthcare
professionals?

You raise a challenging question for a Friday afternoon! The best
defined outcome indicators we have are QOF which is linked to
remuneration and hence incentive. What Lord Darzi's Next Stage Review
identified was measures. When does a measure become an outcome
indicator?

I am trying to compile a list of quality and outcomes indicators that
are directly underpinned by Pathology testing.

The Quality and Outcomes Framework guidance
(http://www.bma.org.uk/ap.nsf/Content/qof06~summclinical) includes many
quality and outcomes linked to Pathology, but I would be grateful if
list members could steer me to any further outcome indicators that are
underpinned by Pathology, not covered by the QOF list.
thanks
martin
