You know, it's a funny old world. In 1994 when I applied for a Grade A
training post I was told that the clinical scientist and MLSO (as was
still (just)) grades would merge within five years. They didn't.
The best part of fifteen years later it looks like it will happen. Now
while I actually support this and think that it is a good thing, I am
concerned about what seems to be happening. My understanding of the
current co-terminus degree/registration for BMS staff is that they can
get registered in one discipline but practice in another (apologies if I
have this wrong, but my informant is reliable). Now there is this
proposal for the conjoined training that will result in limited
specialisation at all? What a wonderful opportunity truly shafted!
People coming from training grades that need to be trained?
The brochure on the DH website is interesting (I've attached a copy so
you know which one I mean). More specifically the back page with the
speech bubbles and photos. Yes it is good that token lab-matey is
concerned about training etc. More telling is the old biddy and
blurry-public and their comments about partnership in health and
fairness of service. Anyone else think an election is coming...? Another
half-cocked health service shake up to make the politicos look good; no,
surely not...
Cynically yours (but with best wishes for the weekend, y'all),
Dave

Helen,
Quite right.
And I see no mention of where Blood Transfusion Science fits into all
this with BSQR requirements for training and competence etc. etc. etc.
