Research Assistant/ Fellow (£24,146-£34,426): Transport and climate change
University of Aberdeen, School of Geosciences, Centre for Transport Research

An experienced researcher is needed to develop research in the area of
transport, energy and climate change in the Centre for Transport Research
within the Geosciences School. The researcher will be involved in work relating
to a number of current projects to identify and evaluate packages of policies
required to achieve carbon dioxide reduction targets. He/she may also become
involved in projects relating to travel behaviour including ‘smart travel
choices’, travel attitudes and segmentation of traveller types.
The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD (or will soon submit their
PhD thesis) in an appropriate area of transport or related studies. For
appointment at Research Fellow level previous experience in post-doctoral
research in transport as well as a proven record of publication and research
income generation is essential. Applicants may come from technical, economic
or behavioural disciplines and a good understanding of UK and or EU transport
and energy/ climate policy will be an advantage. Previous in socio-economic
assessment, policy analysis, transport policy and/ or behavioural analysis is
also desirable. The post-holder’s responsibilities will include literature review,
development of survey materials, data collection and analysis. Experience with
use of statistical packages such as SPSS is desirable, but training will be given
where necessary. The successful candidate will be expected to play an active
role in writing research bids to extend project funding.
The School of Geosciences is one of three Schools within the College of
Physical Sciences, University of Aberdeen. The Centre for Transport Research,
which is inter-disciplinary in scope, provides a focus for transport research
across the University and is directed by Professor John Nelson. Dr Jillian Anable
joined the Centre in July 2008 and is expert in transport and climate change
and the psychology of travel behaviour. CTR has research strengths that
include energy and environment, the psychology of behaviour change, public
transport operations and governance and delivery.
