Two Positions in Communication Design
Rank/Salary
Assistant/Associate Professor. Full-time, tenure track, new positions.
Salary and rank commensurate with experience.
Start Date, August, 2009
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a balance of professional experience in
communication design and/or art direction along with knowledge of and/or
specialized experience with interactive design/user experience design. MFA
or PhD or the equivalent in Communication Design, Graphic Design or related
design studies is required. College level teaching experience is required
for either appointment. To be considered for an appointment at the Associate
level, the candidate must have at least five years full-time university
level teaching experience, an excellent scholarly record and directed funded
design-related research within the past three years.
Preferred
Candidates must exhibit outstanding collaborative and interpersonal skills
as well as the ability to effectively resolve real-world problems using
conceptually driven strategic design solutions. Three or more years of
experience in professional design and/or art direction or design research
preferred.
Responsibilities
Candidates selected will be expected to contribute to critically rigorous,
well-established programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Significant interaction with colleagues will occur on a regular basis.
Student advising and service to the university are required. Excellence in
professional and scholarly activity as well as teaching will be rewarded
with a competitive salary. The maintenance of a high level of professional
activity, or creative or scholarly research, is expected of all UNT
Department of Design faculty seeking tenure and promotion within The College.
Program
The communication design program at the college synthesizes knowledge from
visual communication theory, history, research and criticism with the
systemic analysis of formal design principles to fuel a dynamic, broadly
informed curriculum. We educate students who become creative, informed and
employable designers, art directors and design researchers within the
context of an active and extremely supportive professional community. The
active MFA and BFA programs at the college have a combined enrollment of
about 240 students per year. The college promotes the professional
development of faculty through support of travel, conference fees and
research grant opportunities.
