media software developer (contract role)
media technology

organisational environment

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) is a unique international
arts facility and a feature attraction of Melbourne's iconic Federation Square.

ACMI celebrates and explores the cultural and creative richness of the
moving image in all its forms - film, television, games, new media and art.
Through a diverse and engaging program of award-winning major exhibitions,
film seasons, live events and creative education programs, ACMI brings
excellence and innovation in world film and digital media to Australia.

Since opening its doors in 2002, ACMI has rapidly developed a world-class
positioning based on an agenda of innovation and cultural leadership and
through extraordinary facilities including the world's largest dedicated
screen gallery, two state-of the-art cinema auditoria, an exclusive preview
theatrette and two live production studios.

Following the successful introduction of new program streams and visitor
facilities in 2006 07, ACMI is now undertaking an exciting redevelopment of
its entire ground floor to create a vibrant new permanent gallery and
exhibition charting the history and future of the moving image.

ACMI is a truly unique international institution and with the completion in
2009 of our new permanent free entry exhibition our positioning as a leading
centre of creative energy and cultural excellence will be realised. This
project is one of the most exciting and ambitious arts and film projects in
Australia and on completion will make a major mark on the international
galleries and design stage.

In a world first, this unique gallery, of boundary pushing design, will
celebrate the rich history and future of the moving image - and most
importantly for the first time the pioneering contribution of indigenous and
non-indigenous Australians to its evolution. It will be a rich resource for
cultural exchange, learning and entertainment, housed in a dynamic landmark
gallery that will challenge, surprise and engage.

Position Environment

The Media Software Developer reports to the Head of Media Technology and
will be responsible for the development of a key component of infrastructure
that will support the exhibition and other parts of ACMI's systems.

ACMI intends to develop a digital asset management (DAM) and delivery system
