Hello All,
I have to give a couple of talks on literature searching to different groups. They will just be talks as there will be no opportunity for the attendees to practice what I am preaching. Instead of going step-by-step through accessing databases & running searches I thought I would like to approach this in a different way. I came up with the – no doubt unoriginal – idea of structuring the talk around ’10 Golden Rules for literature searching’ (or ‘3 steps to Heaven’ if my mind goes blank!). Each ‘rule’ would be justified and illustrated with an example. I hope that this format would keep up the interest level, and be acceptable to them as they should already know the basics (doctors and various clinical staff attached to a university research department).
Has anyone tried this type of approach and have any tips or suggestions?
If anyone’s interested in my draft rules (mainly related to the Ovid databases, but with some more general ones) or would like to pass comment on them, I’d be happy to send them to you individually.
With thanks, in anticipation, as ever
Paul
