Learning Resource Conference: IT
Date: 4 Nov 2008 (Full day event)
Location: The Best Western York Pavilion Hotel, York
The current wave of interest in Web 2.0 and social networking sites allows learners to communicate with each other at any time, from anywhere. It
is causing an evolution in the way learners share information and for a modern library service to be effective, it must be willing to explore these
new contexts for information retrieval, underpinned by an understanding of learner trends.
This event will provide delegates with an introductory overview of Web 2.0 and will include practical workshops to enable delegates to make an
informed decision on how such technologies could be employed in their own institutions. These workshops will cover the benefits to the learner, in
addition to the implications for technical and learning resources staff.
Aim of event:
* To investigate the pros and cons of using Web 2.0 in a library setting
* To identify appropriate technologies to use in either an Information Skills
session or to promote library services
Delegates will be able to:
* Share experiences and good practice of Web 2.0 and its role in libraries
* Identify key issues when employing Web 2.0 at their institution
* Recognise the range of social applications in use by learners of today
