Dear NHS supporter
URGENT HELP NEEDED
Following the email sent last week, we are still urgently looking for individuals who are concerned about the way that new GP health centres, sometimes called polyclinics, are being introduced. We have been organising a series of legal challenges to stop or revisit these decisions, and need individuals in specific areas to help us. We need to move the cases on as quickly as possible and at the moment we are looking for people in North Somerset, Wiltshire, or Bradford.
Often these super health centres are being introduced without public consent and against the views of local GPs. Most will be run by private companies, not the NHS. They will centralise services making patients travel further. Patients are already worried that larger health centres will make it very difficult to see the doctor of their choice. We believe that the public does not know about this change and havent been given adequate information or opportunity to influence the decision. There are laws about how the public should be consulted and our legal advice shows that in many areas these have been broken.
If you live in the above areas and would be willing to act as a claimant, or you know someone else that does who could help please contact us.
What will it involve?
It does not require you to go to court or cost you money. It is a simple process in which you have to talk to our lawyer about your views about your local NHS and to establish that you are eligible for legal aid. The case can then proceed and you have to do no more. If you contact us we can explain this and answer any questions that you may have. We believe it is crucial for the NHS to listen to local people, to build services based on their needs Health centres run by private companies for profit will not always be able to ensure that patient care comes first. This is against the central values of the NHS, which the public can help to preserve if they are consulted properly by their local NHS.

Do you qualify for legal aid? (We can work it out for you) In relation to legal aid eligibility, the individual would need to either be in receipt of income support (or jobseeker's allowance), guaranteed state pension credit or have a disposable income (combined if they have a partner) of not more than £695 per month (not including up to £545 per month for mortgage/rent), savings of less than £3000 and equity in their house of £100k or less. A link to the eligibility calculator is here:http://www.legalservices.gov.uk/civil/guidance/eligibility_calculator.asp The potential client requires 'legal help' for the purposes of the calculator.
Thank you for your continued support.
