Institute of Child Health, University College London
Senior Lecturer in Genetic Epidemiology
Applications are invited for a new post of Senior Lecturer in Genetic
Epidemiology at the MRC Centre of Epidemiology for Child Health. This is a
key strategic appointment to establish and develop a research programme,
provide leadership for and build capacity in genetic epidemiology.
You will be expected to develop a research programme that builds on your own
interests and disciplinary background and methodological strengths, while
collaborating in and contributing to existing and emerging programmes of
genetic epidemiological research within the Centre and more broadly at the
Institute of Child Health and UCL. These programmes involve a number of
internal collaborations and draw on diverse populations and biological
samples, for which scientists working in the Centre have considerable
expertise, including the 1958 British birth cohort and the newborn residual
blood spot biobank.
They include:
obesity, cardiovascular disease and related traits, diabetes, early
(prenatal and postnatal) growth, myopia, vitamin D, developmental hip
dysplasia
genetic association (candidate gene and whole genome), epigenetics,
Mendelian randomisation, gene-environment interaction and gene expression
predictive testing and application in whole populations.
Candidates must have a national reputation and experience in
population-based research addressing genetics influences on health and
disease. It is essential that the appointee has a PhD in a relevant area or
evidence of an equivalent level of attainment.
