I'm well aware of the relationshp btwn art and power, thank you, and
what passes for "culture" in this country. Indeed, I'm surprised they
didn't have some clips of Shakespeare being recited on occasion to
illustrate the restoration of the chapel. Literature plays it's part
too. I wonder, Stratford as a Celebration of Money and Power. No one
goes untainted. Not even the 'umble poets.
My argument with Prynne is with the hypocrisy of his pronouncements
and his disciples. And the rest of us are supposed to bow down thrice
at his coming. I suppose he is keeping some ideas alive, but maybe he
could keep them alive in lesser splendour? Yes Prynne's arguments are
considered - one might say rarefied - they bloody well should be given
the amount of leisure time that the old coot has got, wrapped up in
his ivory tower. Heh, never once did I see Prynne in a Cambridge
Starbucks!
