PAVEMENT
When The Wife and I
decided to call it quits in lieu
of packing Burr's and Hamilton's
dueling pistols (for who, if we both
connected, would clean the blood off the walls?),
we amicably decided to split up the cars
and my wife said amicably "Take the fucking Nissan"
so I did but wanted to sell the damned thing
because my dream of recovery was to move back
(oh so long back!) into New York City
so I could save myself insurance and repairs
but I quickly learned that even with a reasonable income,
New York worked only if you were living
off the public tit, in rent controlled housing
that had not changed since Harry Thaw
shot Stanford White, or were an investment banker,
so I settled instead for staying in Cancer Alley New Jersey
where the pavement was not to walk upon
but was the place to put parking spaces for parking spaces
and cops who moonlighted as car thieves.
