Dear Colleagues:
I would like to draw your attention to the upcoming symposium "MOLECULAR
HYDROGEN IN NANOPOROUS MATERIALS: MEETING GROUND FOR THEORY AND EXPERIMENT",
to be held at the 237th American Chemical Society National Meeting, March
22-26, 2009, in Salt Lake City, Utah, under the auspices of the Division of
Physical Chemistry. You are cordially invited to attend, present a
contributed talk, and register for this ACS symposium.
Storing hydrogen by encapsulating hydrogen molecules in nanoporous
materials, e.g., clathrate hydrates, nanostructured carbon materials, and
metal-organic frameworks, has attracted a great deal of interest in recent
years. The topics highlighted by the symposium will include:
- First-principles characterization of the interactions between hydrogen
molecules and the host materials.
-Quantum dynamics of the nanoconfined hydrogen molecules and its
spectroscopic signatures.
-Molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations of hydrogen adsorption,
diffusion, and storage capacity.
-The ways to include quantum effects in the MD simulations.
The participants will describe the progress made to date, identify the main
challenges, and present state-of-the-art methods, electronic structure and
dynamics, suitable for microscopic description of these systems. The
emphasis of the symposium will be on theory, but a number of invited talks
will be devoted to experimental studies of the structural and dynamical
properties of hydrogen molecules in nanoporous materials by a variety of
spectroscopic techniques, such as inelastic neutron scattering, neutron
diffraction, NMR, Raman and infrared spectroscopy.
The Call for Papers for all the symposia at the Spring 2009 ACS National
Meeting was published in Chemical & Engineering News, issue of August 25,
2008 (p. 43-49).
