If only I were more qualified! But I will give a prelimary paper on the citizen interest issue at our LSE conference on Tuesday, and can circulate notes thereafter.

Yes, Meccsa deadline was yesterday (but perhaps it will be a little extended... :)

At the CPBF we've had some difficulty in arranging a meeting with Andy Burnham, and we've formed the distinct impression that he's being kept under wraps since his speech to the BERR think tank. So I wouldn't count on him confirming.

I'm writing the CPBF response to the Citizens, Communications and Convergence discussion paper (responses are due in by October 8, by the way), so would be happy to contribute some thoughts on Ofcom and citizenship to a panel (although clearly Sonia would be far better qualified than me to talk about this). Or I could talk about the uses to which Ofcom puts its research. But isn't the deadline for proposals today?

All the best, Julian.

thanks Julian - thanks also to Salvo for circulating Ofcom's Ed Richards' RTS speech on the Ofcom PSB Review . I wonder what members' thoughts on this speech are . ..

Colleagues will have noted the reminder call for papers for the Meccsa conference in Jan. As a result of suggestions from the POlicy network, the conference organisers have invited Andy Burnham, the sec of state, to give a Plenary address at the conference - however, this has yet to be confirmed, and it's possible he may not come. Might it be possible for one/some members of this Policy group to step in as 'understudy', should this be the case? Or would this not be feasible?

It was also suggested that there be a policy panel at the meccsa conference - has anyone had any further thoughts on this? If so, a proposal will need to be submitted soon. The PSB review seems an obvious candidate for discussion . .

Subject: [MECCSA-POLICY] Ofcom and News on ITV

Dear All,

I thought the following might be of interest. It was partly sparked off
by something which Steve B wrote in a Guardian blog, and partly because
ever since the publication of Ofcom's New News, Future News I've become
fascinated by how Ofcom uses its own research to reach policy
conclusions which seem to me to be the opposite of what the research
actually suggests!
