Experimental Studies on Intonation: Phonetic, Phonological and Psycholinguistic
Aspects of Sentence Prosody
The workshop ''Experimental Studies on Intonation: Phonetic, Phonological and
Psycholinguistic Aspects of Sentence Prosody'' is an event of the German
Research Council's Priority Program 1234 ''Phonetic and Phonological
Competence'' (http://www.spp1234.de/). The workshop will be held at Potsdam
University from the 5th - 7th January 2009. It is hosted by the project
''Prosody in Parsing'' (http://www.ling.uni-potsdam.de/pip/) at Potsdam
University and is jointly organized by researchers from the Universities of
Potsdam, Cologne, Stuttgart and Berlin. The four projects of the Priority
Program are engaged in the following areas:
- comparative studies on intonation
- prosody in sentence processing
- tonal and articulatory correlates of information structure
- prosodic categories in speech perception
The workshop aims at furthering interdisciplinary exchange and advancing
discussion on the above and other aspects of intonation. The workshop will
consist of invited talks and presentations of the individual project's work.

The British Association of Clinical Linguistics

SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS
This will be a two day event which aims to bring together researchers and teachers of clinical linguistics and phonetics. We invite submissions of papers on any area of clinical linguistics and phonetics which report on research findings, discuss issues in the teaching and learning of speech and language therapy, or combine both areas.
The focus of Monday 15th December will be research, and the focus of Tuesday 16th December will be teaching and learning.
Presentations will be 20 minutes long followed by a 5-minute question period. Posters will be on display for a full day with one attended session during the day.

ABSTRACT FORMAT AND CONTENT
Abstracts should be submitted by email as PDF documents. Please save your document using the first author's surname as the file name (e.g. Smith.pdf).
Abstracts should be no more than 500 words in length. The first page should include the name, affiliation, contact email address, and title of the proposed presentation. The text of the abstract should fit on the second page. A third page may be included for examples, figures, or references, if desired.
Abstracts submitted should present original research in clinical linguistics and phonetics, discuss issues in the teaching and learning of clinical linguistics and phonetics, or combine both areas.
Please indicate if you would prefer an oral paper or a poster presentation.

Call for Papers
An international conference, ''The Sound of Indo-European - Phonetics,
Phonemics, and Morphophonemics'', organized within the framework of the
programme ''The Roots of Europe - Language, Culture, and Migrations'', will take
place at the University of Copenhagen, April 16th - 19th, 2009. The conference
fee will be 50 Euros, lunch included.
Participants wishing to give a presentation are kindly invited to send a
preliminary title before November 1st, 2008. The general theme of the conference
includes phonetic, phonemic, and morphophonemic questions relating to either the
Indo-European protolanguage and its prestages or to a specific branch of the
Indo-European family.
Featured speakers are: Dr. Eugen Hill (Ludwig-Maximillians-Universität München),
Prof. Martin Kümmel (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg), and Prof. Brent Vine
(University of California, Los Angeles).

Research Positions in Irish Speech Synthesis
Two positions are being offered by Trinity College for research on Irish synthesis, as part of the Cabógaí project, which is funded by Foras na Gaeilge (see www.abair.ie <http://www.abair.ie/> ). The appointments may be for:
- a postgraduate student, where the work is carried out as part of an MSc/PhD;
or
- a research assistant who may work full or part-time on the project.
The skills being sought are speech processing, computational linguistics, Irish linguistics and a good knowledge of Irish.
The contract will be for two years, with salary depending on the applicant's experience.
