Finds Liaison Officer (Portable Antiquities Scheme) - until 31st March 2009.
Salary up to £21,413 per annum (pay award pending)
The Portable Antiquities Scheme is a voluntary national scheme to record
archaeological objects found by the public, including metal detector
users, to advance archaeological knowledge and to increase opportunities
for active public involvement in archaeology. Data arising from the
Scheme is published on www.finds.org.uk and is made available to the
relevant Historic Environment Record. This position is funded in
partnership with the Museums Libraries and Archives Council, the
Department for culture, Media and Sport and Somerset and Dorset County
Based in Taunton, you will work loosely with the Senior Finds Liaison
Officer, Senior Archaeologist (Dorset County Council), Head of Museum
Services (Somerset County Council) and the Head and Deputy Head of the
Portable Antiquities Scheme.
You will have experience in a relevant professional specialism with an
Honours degree (or equivalent extensive work experience).
You will make contact with members of the public including
metal-detector users; attend club meetings; explain the aims of the
Scheme and the Treasure Act (1996) through giving talks; and record
finds on the Scheme database.
