Subject: Re: [EFTC] FW:Research question Medication in a TC
Dear Gerasimos,
Your question on homeopathic medication was not very clear to me.
I do not know fom T.C's with experience in homeopathic medicines. So far
there is hardly any scientific proof that they work.
Some T.C.'s use psychiatric medications for concurring psychiatric
diseases. It must be clear to other residents in the T.C.why some
residents
get medication.
Ther is a plan to have a workshop in the EFTC conference in The Hague
(2-5
June 2009) on medication in a T.C.
Some months ago I spoke to Dr Efraim Ramirez, the psychiatrist who
started
Phoenix House in New York and who is working for many years in T.C's in
Puerto Rico. He did a research in Puerto Rico on treating TC residents
with
ADHD with a suppletion in their food of chelated (amino-acid bond)
lithium
( this is not the lithium carbonate used in manic depressive disorders)
. In
his opion ADHD, that makes persons more vulnerable for addiction, is the
result of a deficient diet.
Pharmaceutical inustries arte not interested accoording to dr Ramirez,
because the chelated lithium is to inexpensive and already available at
simple drug stores.

With best regards,

Traditionally TCs do not use any kind of medicine - even homeopathetic
or products of alternative methods. For what I know - at least for south
Europe experience - only additionally and individually alternative
medicines has been used and no data are available to me in order to
construct any evidence about the method's effectiveness. Nevertheless
there is a homeopathic MD in Athens who used homeopathetic treatment on
individual basis and maybe he is interesting to share his experience. Do
you like asking him if he is willing to open a relativw issue?

Subject: [EFTC] FW:Research question
{I have received the following query from Margarita Segkou, at the
Archive and Study Centre. Her email address is [log in to unmask],
and I will copy this to her. Can anyone help?]
Hi,
i am a Greek homeopath and i am considering seriously to offer
volunteering homeopathic treatment to heroin addicts who are willing to
try homeopathic treatment. For my own understanding i search information
related to positive outcomes of de-addiction, when there was prescribed
homeopathic remedies. I know that many European Therapeutic Communities
have been doing great job and i wonder if there are any data proving
that homeopathy has supported beneficially people throughout their
therapeutic journey. How can i pass this question to all TC and recieve
answers to my question?
I look forward to hear from you.
Kind Regards,
Margarita Segkou
