Forthcoming event
Britain in a European Context - Research Data Resources
Friday 7 November 2008
Humanities Bridgeford Street, University of Manchester
A free workshop, open to all, organised by the Economic and Social Data Service.
Understanding the UK increasingly requires an understanding of our place in
Europe. This one-day workshop will introduce participants to the major data
resources that enable researchers to explore these relationships and influences.
The workshop, aimed at social science research staff and students, will
discuss the data resources available for the analysis of the UK at a
national level and within a European context. It will include presentations
on accessing British survey data and international comparative data from
surveys, including issues relating to accessing data from Eurostat, and will
explore the range of international time series data available from
intergovernmental organisations such as the World Bank and International
Monetary Fund. We will also be looking at the methodological, statistical
and technical issues associated with combining data from these different
sources. In the afternoon, participants will have the opportunity to gain
practical experience in accessing and exploring the data and related
resources in hands-on sessions.
Presenters include Tanvi Desai (London School of Economics), Jack Kneeshaw
and Celia Russell (Economic and Social Data Service International) and
Anthony Rafferty (Economic and Social Data Service Government).
