This is to update you on progress with organising this year's children's literature talks.
I have now agreed with Alec Williams for him to talk at Roehampton on "Boys and Reading" on Wednesday November 26th 5-7 pm. He was booked to talk at Seven Stories but had to cancel so I thought him the obvious starting point for this series. His fee, reduced for us, is £100 plus travelling expenses from Bradford. Roehampton can provide the venue free of charge and we can do DIY catering. I can offer him a room for an overnight stay.
I hope it is OK with all if I now go ahead and advertise this?
Before I do that however, Alec has suggested that if he can get another booking in the London area we could share his travel expenses, which would be very useful. I have drafted an e-mail asking if anyone is interested which I would like to put on ELG, YLG, SLG and LISE lists as soon as possible. Does anyone see a problem with this or does it smack of commercialism or advertising which some lists might disaprove of? Can I assume there is not a problem with the ELG list anyway? If necessary I could just give the barest details and ask anyone interested to contact me but I would rather give more information including feedback on Alec's previous events so that people get interested. Comments please!
I will give more feedback on other bookings when we meet in November, including Prue Goodwin who has agreed to speak on the Teacher's as Readers project for us in Feburary in Reading.
thanks and best wishes
